The stimulation will be performed either with a surgically implanted electrode array placed next to the spinal cord (epidural electrical stimulation: EES) or by way of skin-surface stimulation (transcutaneous electrical spinal stimulation: TESS). Participants will undergo physical rehabilitation in combination with TESS for the first month and then will receive ESS for the final 6 months of training.","age_from":22,"age_to":150,"ais_a":true,"ais_b":true,"ais_c":false,"ais_d":false,"ais_e":false,"time_since_injury_from":1,"time_since_injury_from_unit":"years","time_since_injury_to":150,"time_since_injury_to_unit":"years","healthy_volunteers":false,"inclusion_criteria":["NOT use ventilator","weigh less than 113kg (250 lbs.)","NOT have history of severe autonomic dysreflexia or hypotension"],"study_type":"interventional","allocation":"N/A","brief_description":"The study seeks to improve the scientific understanding of how two electrical stimulation techniques, one which delivers electricity to the skin surface over the spine (transcutaneous electrical spinal stimulation [TESS]) and another which is implanted onto the dura mater of the spinal cord (epidural electrical stimulation [EES]), facilitate spinal circuitry to enable function after SCI.","detailed_description":"The participant will undergo physical rehabilitation in combination with TESS for the first month and then ESS for the last 6 months of training.","final_testing_performed":null,"version_id":9,"emsci_trial":false,"curation_status":"curated","overall_recruitment_status":"ended","primary_intervention":{"id":5,"name":"Technology","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"technology"},"primary_benefit":{"id":12,"name":"Standing/walking/mobility","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"walking"},"sex":"All","injury_level_from":"C7","injury_level_to":"T10","start_date":"December 16, 2022","organization":"Mayo Clinic","benefits":[{"id":2,"name":"Bladder health/function","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"bladder"},{"id":3,"name":"Bone health","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"bone"},{"id":4,"name":"Bowel health","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"bowel"},{"id":5,"name":"General health","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"general-health"},{"id":8,"name":"Sensory function","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"sensory-benefits"},{"id":9,"name":"Sexual health","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"love-heart"},{"id":11,"name":"Spasticity","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"wave"},{"id":12,"name":"Standing/walking/mobility","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"walking"},{"id":90,"name":"Mechanism of action","parent_id":null,"icon_name":null}],"injuries":[{"id":3,"name":"Traumatic","parent_id":1,"pivot":{"trial_id":2831,"injury_id":3}}],"interventions":[{"id":3,"name":"Rehabilitation","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"medical-rehabilitation"},{"id":5,"name":"Technology","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"technology"},{"id":6,"name":"Psychosocial/other","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"alternative-or-complimentary"}],"outcome_measures":[],"recovery_mechanisms":[],"published_at":"2021-11-05T20:08:11.000000Z","modified_at":"2021-11-05T20:08:11.000000Z"},"layout":"trial"}},
