B/NHE uses a computer connected to electrodes placed on the scalp surface to measure electrical brain activity (electroencephalography-EEG) and to track eye movements (electrooculography-EOG). The EEG/EOG signals are configured to control an externally worn powered robotic device (exoskeleton) to assist with useful hand movements. Participants will be connected to the B/NHE system and will undergo several activities of daily living over a number of sessions.","age_from":18,"age_to":65,"ais_a":false,"ais_b":true,"ais_c":true,"ais_d":false,"ais_e":false,"time_since_injury_from":6,"time_since_injury_from_unit":"months","time_since_injury_to":65,"time_since_injury_to_unit":"years","healthy_volunteers":false,"inclusion_criteria":[],"study_type":"interventional","allocation":"N/A","brief_description":"This study investigates whether spinal cord injury and stroke survivors (n=10) are able to operate a brain/neural hand exoskeleton (B/NHE) based on electroencephalography (EEG) and electrooculography (EOG) for restoration of bimanual activities of daily living (ADLs). To assess bimanual ADLs, the Berlin Bimanual Task Assessment (BEBITA) will be applied. Improvements in BEBITA will be evaluated with and without B/NHE use.","detailed_description":"The participant will be connected to the B/NHE system and will undergo several activities of daily living (number of sessions not specified at this time).","final_testing_performed":null,"version_id":9,"emsci_trial":false,"curation_status":"curated","overall_recruitment_status":null,"primary_intervention":{"id":5,"name":"Technology","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"technology"},"primary_benefit":{"id":1,"name":"Arm/hand function","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"hand-expand"},"sex":"All","injury_level_from":"C5","injury_level_to":"C6","start_date":"2020-06","organization":"University Hospital Tuebingen","benefits":[{"id":1,"name":"Arm/hand function","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"hand-expand"},{"id":5,"name":"General health","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"general-health"}],"injuries":[{"id":3,"name":"Traumatic","parent_id":1,"pivot":{"trial_id":2817,"injury_id":3}}],"interventions":[{"id":3,"name":"Rehabilitation","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"medical-rehabilitation"},{"id":5,"name":"Technology","parent_id":null,"icon_name":"technology"}],"outcome_measures":[],"recovery_mechanisms":[],"published_at":"2021-11-05T18:43:40.000000Z","modified_at":"2021-11-05T18:43:40.000000Z"},"layout":"trial"}},
